Reno, NV. Bruka Theatre presents the classicly twisted dramedy Stupid F**king Bird as the 6th play of the 2016/17 Season. What it means to be human and how we desperately yearn to connect to something that gives our existence purpose is at the root of Stupid F**king Bird, Aaron Posner’s brilliant adaptation of Anton Chekhov’s masterpiece The Seagull--a story about love and loss, life and death, art and artifice. In this edgy, funny and contemporary retelling of an old story, Posner has discovered the new forms that Chekhov’s protagonist called for over a century ago, breaking down barriers between what is real and what is imaginary. Directed by Holly Natwora who studied at Columbia University with some of the most innovative director’s in the American theatre, and performed by a talented cast of exceptional local artists, Stupid F**king Bird will keep audiences riveted as they watch the hopes and dreams of Chekhov’s characters reflect back their own glorious lives, warts and all.
Stupid F**king Bird opens with a post-show opening night champagne reception and appetizers from the Wild River Grille on May 19, 2017. The show runs weekly Thursday through Sunday through June 17, 2017. Evening shows begin at 8:00 pm (Artist night is Wednesday June 14, 2017. ALL TICKETS are $10 for Artist Night.) There are two Sunday matinees on May 21 & June 4*. The matinees begin at 2:00 PM and the June 4 matinee is followed by a talk back with the company and our audience. The doors open a half an hour before curtain time. Suggested for ages 16 and up.

Reno, NV. Tooth of Crime (Second Dance) by Sam Shepard is the 1997 revision of the 1972 play an innovative rock drama featuring aging rock star Hoss in a world in which entertainment and street warfare go hand in hand, Hoss must defend himself against Crow, a newcomer who battles him for fame. Combining musical styles and intense dialogue in an unconventional musical-fantasy, Tooth of Crime riffs brilliantly on rising stars and fading legends. The show features local rock performers creating original music for the production and a set that invites the audience in to not just witness, but be a part of the spectacle.
In 2015 the original team of Zaumeyer, Richards and Dundas produced Tooth Of Crime at Jub Jub’s on Wells Avenue. For 2017, they will bring it to the Bruka Theatre space, which has been an artistic home for these artists for many years. The creation team of Tooth Of Crime, including Dave Richards, Lewis Zaumeyer and Scott Dundas stress that this show is not for the faint of heart, or for anyone unwilling to step out of his or her comfort zone. Their goal is not just to put on a theatrical production, but to use the space to create a world for the audience to enter. They hope the audience will be transported into a post-apocalyptic desert compound, with a crudely constructed throne room in the center. This is the kingdom of a guerrilla leader known only as Hoss, the king and rock god who sits on the throne. Local punk band Vampirates – renamed “The Markers” will crank up the volume, delivering a punch right off the bat. Live pyrotechnics and industrial effects will light up the room.
